On the 20th of May 2016, Accidental Discharge will present their first exhibition, ALL.
ALL brings forth the idea of individuals cohesively existing together and uniting together. Curated with the aim of showing acceptance and bringing all mediums of work, ALL will feature talented emerging artists. “We want this exhibition to be the first of many, bringing together the ideas of unity and also opening a discussion for contemporary feminism. We hope to expand further, and work with more and more artists”. The two week long exhibition will feature special events, including a panel discussion in collaboration with LISTEN.
Accidental Discharge was created in school halls and bedroom floors. Started as a zine for her friends, Maile Shanti set out to create a school project that could be available to the girls around her, the initial idea being to further educate young females in her school on the feminist movement, and to debunk previous stereotypes that lived around it; opening up the idea that feminism is a movement available to anyone and ALL.
Late through the year, Gemma Mahoney came on board as creative director. Complimenting each others styles and flaws, the pair brought to life not only the initial idea, but developing and seeing the endless potential Accidental Discharge has to offer. Accidental Discharge is the honest, open, flawed creation. Originally formed to empower young girls, it now exists beyond that realm, as the growth of Gemma and Maile continues, so does the growth of Accidental Discharge.
