In this exhibition Rose and Fleure use contrasting techniques and imagery to explore colour and shape, light and shade, movement and flow.
Rose Scutella is interested in deconstructing images from built up urban environments. Basic forms are expressed using contour and line, colour and shape. In Harmony and Discord, Scutella applies this process to the human form, using similar principles to deconstruct the human body into basic geometrics; blurring the boundaries between the human form and its surrounding environment. The use of sharp corners, and both harmonising and contrasting colours in these works, creates feelings of both harmony and discord, and alludes to the complicated interaction between people and their environments.
Fleure Vaslet explores the ever changing and elusive nature of light, and the effect it has on our natural environment. In this exhibition she portrays shapes and patterns from nature, encouraging colours to flow and merge in harmony. Vaslet creates abstract and stylised artwork which she hopes will incite a feeling of joy in the viewer; a lightness of spirit.
