Lamperd investigates ecology through recycling and reconstructing materials into newly hand-processed forms, allowing the viewer to see the mark of the artist, while presenting several stages of the making process. In this un-glorified and honest progression, the imperfections emphasise the in-between, questioning what constitutes a finished product. Focusing particularly on the origins and materiality of paper, Lamperd makes and re-makes, breaking down the form only to re-build it again.

Nature is mirrored closely throughout Georgina Lamperd’s body of work. In her Fine Art Honours graduate installation piece, The Downside of the Up, there is an immediate friction between the organic form and the cityscape. Yet the skyscrapers appear through a dreamlike lens; underwater, almost warped, tiny pieces of debris floating on the surface.
